Grade 3
Grade 3 – Joy in Discovery
Welcome to 3rd Grade at PACT! This is a time of joyful discovery—when learners ask important questions, dive into chapter books, and develop critical thinking skills.
Joyful Moments
There are many special moments that make 3rd grade the best grade! We usually go on two field trips each school year, with one being our annual visit to the Science Museum of Minnesota (a fan favorite)! Throughout the year, 3rd graders will work on their keyboarding skills. This prepares them for success when it comes time to complete the Bobblehead Writing Project. Students will choose a famous person to research, gather resources, take notes, create an outline, and type their paper on Google Docs. The project will include a small poster and a Bobblehead Replica of their person. Students impress us every year with their hard work and creativity during this project! The Bobblehead Writing project is a great step toward the 5th-grade Wax Museum project.
What to Expect
Every day, students will start with a morning class meeting to help build our classroom community. The rest of the day will include math and ELA lessons, rotating specialist classes, alternating Science and Social Studies lessons, lunch, recess, ability-grouped WIN time, and Snack and Choice Time. Parents can expect to receive weekly updates from the teacher at the end of each school week, sharing what we have learned, important events to add to the calendar, and upcoming topics planned for the classroom.
Learning Milestones
3rd grade is an exciting year for math! Mathematicians will take a big step in learning multiplication and division. We start by learning a song for the multiples of 2-9 and 11 & 12. These fun songs help make multiplying and dividing easy and fun. We send our families links to all of the catchy songs so everyone can join in the learning fun! 3rd graders will also learn the steps of the writing process and how to write in cursive.
Joy at Home: Tips for Families
Engage in math games, explore maps together, and discuss the books you’re both reading.
