HELPING EVERY STUDENT GROW AND BE READY TO LEARN

Character Development

We believe that how students feel and how they learn are closely connected. When students feel safe, valued, and understood, they’re ready to learn. Our Behavior Team works alongside teachers and families to help every student build the skills to handle challenges, make good choices, and grow in character.

What We Do

No two days are the same, but every day centers on being present for students. The behavior team:

  • Greets students at arrival and dismissal, and is visible at recess, at lunch, in hallways, and in classrooms
  • Builds relationships through regular check-ins with students
  • Steps in to help when a student needs it, in the classroom or elsewhere in the building
  • Partners with teachers to problem-solve and brainstorm
  • Stays connected with families, including “good news” phone calls when a student has a great day

Our Approach

We use proven programs to help students build character and practical life skills:

  • Character Strong
  • Be Good People
  • Zones of Regulation
  • Love and Logic
  • Social stories
  • Individual plans developed with teachers and case managers

All of this work connects to PACT’s character traits: respect, responsibility, cooperation, gratitude, compassion, self-control, perseverance, integrity, and citizenship. Learn more about Character Education at PACT.

Help at Every Level

Like scoops on a cone, each level builds on the one below it. Every student learns and practices positive skills, and students who need more receive extra help in the classroom, outside the classroom, or in partnership with our special education team. Learn more about how this works on our Intervention page.
